Blood Match is a fast-paced, educational game where players race against the clock to treat as many patients as possible before time runs out.
Each patient requires a Red blood Cell Transfusion. Players select and drag the correct blood bag from the Blood Bank onto the matching patient bed. A successful transfusion earns points and frees the bed for the next patient, while an incorrect transfusion is rejected and results in a points penalty and you have to answer a transfusion safety question. As more patients arrive, the pace increases, creating an increasingly demanding challenge.
The Blood Bank contains a limited supply of blood packs, so players must manage their resources carefully. New blood packs are added as the game progresses, but when the Blood Bank becomes full or supplies need refreshing, players can answer a transfusion safety question to refresh the inventory. Correct answers provide a new supply of blood packs, reinforcing key learning points throughout the game.
Players can use the Help button to view a blood compatibility chart when they need a quick reminder. However, the game timer continues to run, so players must balance using the help available with making quick decisions.
Success depends on more than simply knowing which blood groups are compatible. Players must balance speed, accuracy and resource management, prioritising valuable blood supplies for patients who need them most while avoiding preventable errors.
When the Blood Bank needs to be refreshed, players can answer transfusion safety questions to replenish their supply of blood packs. Correct answers refresh the Blood Bank, while incorrect answers mean the current supply remains unchanged.
The questions reinforce key learning points around blood compatibility and transfusion safety, allowing players to test their knowledge while progressing through the game. This adds an extra layer of challenge, where clinical knowledge can directly help players manage their resources and continue treating patients.
Every transfusion contributes to your final score. Exact matches, compatible matches, universal matches and unsafe matches are recorded throughout the game, with different outcomes affecting the score. Once the game ends, players can see their total score and review their transfusion performance.
